LONDON - September 30, 2007: Daihatsu’s popular Terios sport utility has been voted a ‘4x4 Of The Year’ winner for the second year running following tough testing by 4x4 magazine. The 1.5 litre, five-door, five-seat Daihatsu now holds the title of: ‘Budget Class Winner – 2008’. Launched as a totally new model last summer, the Terios already holds the title of ‘Compact/Affordable Category Winner – 2007’.

The Terios beat all major rivals such as the Fiat Sedici 4x4, smaller Fiat Panda 4x4 and even larger and more expensive all-wheel drive models such as the Volkswagen Golf 4Motion.

The fact that Daihatsu is no longer a player in the Australian new-car market, doesn't affect its status on the used-car scene.

Daihatsu prices took a dip when the announcement was first made that the manufacturer was pulling out of Australia, but beyond that, it's been more or less business as usual when it comes to pre-loved Daihatsus.

Britain's cheapest roadster has been given a massive engine boost, after Daihatsu chopped the 660cc engine in the Copen for a 1.3 twin-cam. The Copen was conceived under Japan's K-car rules for short micro cars with engines under 0.7 litres, and its right-hand drive status meant it was imported to the UK market. Performance has increased (6mph and 2.2sec faster) while the price has actually dropped to £10,995 - down from £12,500 in 2004. That's not bad for a two-seat roadster complete with a folding hard-top. That tin top folds away electrically in just 20sec.

A 16-year old Daihatsu Charade bought for £150 on e-Bay has just completed one of the toughest drives in the world, the 6,635 mile-long Mongol Rally. Furthermore, the car looks set to be the only entry to complete the Rally without a single breakdown.

David Mayo, a 21 year-old student from Surrey, took 20 days to complete the fund-raising feat with his 55-year old father, English teacher, Tony. They travelled as team ‘Mongolian Taxi Service’.

Despite departing Hyde Park on 22 July, many of the 160-plus entrants have still to arrive in the Mongolian capital, Ulaanbaatar.

It comes in 5-speed manual transmission or 4-speed automatic transmission. The width of the first generation Daihatsu Terios is lesser than 1500mm to fulfill the keicar regulation.
